The Gummies' modern adventures begin when they are discovered by a human boy named Cavin who happens to have a Gummi Bear Medallion, found by his grandfather many years earlier. In the fall of 1990, the series became a part of Disney's weekday afternoon syndicated cartoon block, The Disney Afternoon. Various countries outside of the US have released VHS copies of episodes from the series.
